Donald H. Layton Honored by Marquis Who’s Who for More Than 40 Years of Professional Excellence

NEW YORK, NY, April 26, 2017, Donald H. Layton has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. Renowned for his knowledge, skill and dedication, Mr. Layton currently serves as the chief executive officer of Freddie Mac, which has been in Federal Government conservatorship since 2008, as a public service after a long and distinguished career in financial services. The company, which is one of the largest sources of mortgage financing in the United States, was founded by Congress in 1970 to provide liquidity, stability and affordability to the nation’s residential mortgage market. Earlier in his career, he was one of the senior executives who assembled the modern J.P. Morgan Chase, having begun as a trainee at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in 1975 and rising to its head of trading & treasury activities in 1988, and continuing into larger positions through the mergers with Chemical Bank in 1991 and then Chase Manhattan in 1996, and then the acquisition of J.P. Morgan in 2000. He retired from J.P. Morgan Chase as vice chairman and a member of the three-person Office of the Chairman in 2004, having been first co-head of its investment bank and then head of its retail bank. He subsequently served as Chairman and then CEO of E*TRADE Financial from late 2007 through the end of 2009, shepherding it successfully through the financial crisis.
He was appointed to the Board of Directors of AIG by the U.S. Treasury, serving from 2010 through 2012, and also was a member of the Board of Assured Guaranty Limited, the leading bond insurer, from 2006 through 2012.
Mr. Layton received simultaneous Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in economics from MIT, as well as an MBA from Harvard University, graduating as a Baker Scholar. His professional affiliations include the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, where he served as senior advisor from 2006 until 2008. Additionally, he gives back through his community by working as chairman emeritus of Partnership for the Homeless, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing homelessness in New York City, having served as its Chairman for nearly a decade. Throughout his career, Mr. Layton has been recognized many times for his professional accomplishments. He was featured in seven volumes of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, the 26th edition of Who’s Who in American Politics, and the inaugural volume of Who’s Who in Corporate America.
