James Edgar Keesling Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who’s Who

GAINESVILLE, FL, June 27, 2017 — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name James Edgar Keesling a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Keesling celebrates many years’ experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Spending his entire career in academia, Dr. Keesling has been a professor of mathematics at the University of Florida since 1975, chair of the mathematics department since 2008, and chair of the faculty assembly for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences since 2010. Dr. Keesling received his formal training at the University of Miami, where he obtained a Bachelor Science in Industrial Engineering, a Master of Science in Mathematics, and a PhD in Mathematics between 1964 and 1968. Hired by the University of Florida for the first time in 1967 as an assistant professor, Dr. Keesling later became an associate professor, and also spent a short time as president pro-tempore and another five years as a parliamentarian.
Dr. Keesling has taught undergraduate courses to include Honors Calculus, Numerical Analysis, Numerical Methods for Differential Equations, and Operations Research, and graduate courses to include Algebraic Topology, Dimension Theory, Shape Theory, Biomathematics, Applied Differential and Partial Differential Equations, Chaos and Fractals, Ergodic Theory, and Dynamical Systems. Awarded the opportunity to serve as a visiting faculty at the University of Georgia and the University of Utah, Dr. Keesling also lectured at numerous national and international conferences in mathematics, and served as a visiting lecturer for the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, where he is a member.
Also an acting member of several other professional organizations, including the American Mathematics Society, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the New York Academy of Sciences, Dr.Keesling has been the editor of Revista Matematica Complutense since 2003. Beyond his involvement in that publication, Dr. Keesling is the former managing editor and current member of the board of advisors for the Topology & Its Application since 2009. He has published roughly 100 professional articles to date in various professional journals.
A two-time recipient of a Teaching Award by the University of Florida in 1994 and 1998, Dr. Keesling received numerous grants over the years as well. Mr. Keesling has previously been named to more than 30 editions of Who’s Who, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in American Education, and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. Formerly an elder and church chairman for Creekside Community Church (Evangelical Free Church of America), for many years, Dr. Keesling has been married to Marian Ellen Calley since 1963, and has four children.
