Tom Chunghu Tsai, PhD, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who’s Who

SUGAR LAND, TX, May 24, 2017 — Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Tom Chunghu Tsai, PhD, a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Tsai celebrates many years’ experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Tsai’s passion for science steered him down a path to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University, followed by a Master of Science and PhD in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, all within just five years. In 1975, after completing his PhD, he was taken on board with CE-Lummus Company in Bloomfield, N.J., as a senior process engineer. Five years later, he moved to Houston, Texas, to work for a company called Bechtel Petroleum Inc. as a senior engineer. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Tsai established TDS Associates as a consultant engineer, also in Houston.

Finally, in 1988, Dr. Tsai landed a position with Dow Chemical Company as a processing engineer associate and later as lead process engineering manager. Dow, the world’s second largest chemical producer by chemical sales, is known for combining the power of science and technology to innovate what is essential to human progress. Headquartered in Michigan, the American multinational chemical company manufactures plastics, chemicals, and agricultural products, and has presence in roughly 160 countries.

A registered professional engineer in the state of Texas, Dr. Tsai’s work has extended outside the four walls of his office. He has written numerous articles, as well as books, some of which include co-authoring and contributing to “Ethylene-Keystone to the Petrochemical Industry,” “Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology,” “Refining and Petrochemical Technology Yearbook,” “Encyclopedia of Chemical Processing and Design,” and “Unit Operations Handbook.” He has also served on the international advisory board for the Encyclopedia of Chemical Processing and Design since 1995 and holds several patents in his field.

A member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, member and former president of the Association of Chinese Organizations of Houston, and member and former division chairman, vice president, president-elect, and president of the Association of Chinese American Professionals, Dr. Tsai also served on the board of directors for the High School of Performing and Visual Arts Parent Teacher Organization in Houston from 1993 to 1995. Just prior to relocating to the U.S., Dr. Tsai served as a second lieutenant in the Republic of China Army, from 1970 to 1971.

In 1974, Dr. Tsai married Joyce Chionhwa Pai, with whom he had two children: Wayne and Jimmy Payne. Dr. Tsai has been recognized in several editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
